Welcome to Arriero Zapotec Rugs. My name is Pantaleon Ruiz Martinez, Master Zapotec Weaver and founder of Arriero Rugs. My family and I are from Teotitlan Del Valle, a small village in the state of Oaxaca located in the southwestern part of Mexico. We dedicate ourselves to hand-weaving Zapotec rugs (Tapetes), a tradition passed down from generation to generation from our ancestors in the Pre-Columbian era.
We pride ourselves in using nothing but the best quality of 100% sheep wool. The fibers in the wool are carded and then spun by hand. During this process the wool's rich fat called lanolin is felt through the fingers. This wool creates threads that are smooth and very resistant.
