To date, Animal Aid for Vermilion Area, a non profit 501(c)3 animal rescue organization established in 1995, located in South Louisiana, has helped rescue thousands of animals. AAVA has worked through numerous natural disasters, including hurricanes Katrina and Rita and the floods of August 2016. In the aftermath of Katrina, they helped unite people with their pets and saved cattle from drowning and starving. One of our goals is to rescue and rehome as many animals as we can from the local Animal Control facility, located in Kaplan, LA. How is this situation different from any other town or parish/county with a pound, you ask? There are THREE reasons:
