W. Lyle Carver is the Commonwealth's Attorney for Amherst County and works closely with his Deputy Commonwealth's Attorney Amber Drumheller, Assistant Commonwealth's Attorneys Adam Stanley, Spencer Drake, and Clint Carwile, and Victim Witness Advocates Lauren Shelton and Judy Brooks. The Commonwealth's Attorney has responsibility for the prosecution of all state and local criminal cases in Amherst County. The office's administrative responsibilities are carried out by the Office Administrator, Jenny Hunter.
The Office of the Commonwealth's Attorney is one created by the Constitution of Virginia and is voted for by the citizens of the County. Besides prosecuting misdemeanors and felony cases in all courts, Mr. Carver and his staff provide consultation service to citizens of the County on matters of criminal law. The Commonwealth's Attorney is also the legal adviser on criminal matters to law enforcement agencies operating within the County.
