As you all know, this site is dedicated to everyone interested in international living and expat life in France – not just for American citizens.
But today we celebrate the national holiday of the USA, Independence Day. America turns 242 today – ever since the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776.
The US very much would not be a country without the economic and military power of France – essential for the American victory in the Revolutionary War. I encourage you to read about General Gilbert du Motier Marquis de Lafayette, and “Democracy in America” by Alexis de Tocqueville. Thomas Jefferon’s biography is also a must-read for any history buff. They all help to illustrate the close relations the US has had with France – our oldest allies.
