Alliance Psychological Services of New York is part of a worker collective on the border of Brooklyn and Queens (see alliancecollective.coop for more info). As humans with radical values, we actively oppose the "mental health industrial complex"—the cultural, political, and economic system that maintains structures of oppression through its power to define and enforce "sanity." Many of us who seek care end up experiencing coercion and control. Yet, because (1) we are human, and (2) we wake up every morning
Our staff is made up of people who need care and also provide it. Our work is compassionate rather than corrective. We value flexibility and seek to evolve with our clients' needs. Many of our clients seek healing from the long-term effects of complex trauma, intergenerational trauma, and the collateral damage of what bell hooks calls "imperialist white supremacist capitalist patriarchy ." We use anti-racist, LGBTQIA-affirming, and feminist models of care in our work.
I am a cisgender Afro-Latina therapist working with adults, adolescents, and couples who are seeking a healing and collaborative therapeutic relationship built upon radical self-compassion.
