On Monday, February 6th, two massive earthquakes hit southern Turkey and northern Syria. So far, more than 50,000 people have died. Acts of Mercy is responding to this crisis alongside our national partners on the ground.
As of August 2023, we have deployed 16 teams to Turkey with roles such as: damage assessment, search and rescue, and serving weekly at a soup kitchen that feeds up to 4,000 meals/day. One initiative was facilitating a trauma healing training with nationals and expats in three cities throughout Turkey. As we move into the Fall, we are deliberating with our local partners what development can look like for the coming 6-9 months (i.e. - English clubs, community centers, and more substantial long-term housing).
