Our aim is to share mutual interests in mechanical musical instruments. Typically, the instruments owned by many ACMMI members were made in the early 20th century, but there are many modern examples among the membership, such as the Disklavier and PianoDisc MIDI player systems.

Collections among our members include Pianolas, Ampico, Duo-Art, Welte and Recordo reproducing pianos, as well as music boxes, harmoniums, Orchestrelles, Dance Hall and Fairground organs. Some members only own a Disklavier or similar modern instrument.

The Disklavier, PianoDisc and similar modern player pianos are a part of many member's collections. It is now possible to hear MIDI files of player and reproducing piano rolls on these instruments, and members whose interest is primarily in the music regard modern instruments as serving an historical purpose.
