I decided to begin this blog when I realised it was 70 days to my 70th birthday: wanting to own the fact I’ve reached this age, despite all sorts of attempts by life to get me to leave early. And mark it in some way other than a birthday party.
The blog is my search for that. How to mark this stage in my journey? Finding myself travelling to Newcastle seemed a fitting beginning. It has been at the end and the beginning of so many journeys in my life. Longed for childhood holidays, travelling home after learning of the death of my father, anxious train journeys back and forth to university. Always sensing a land, a life, a world irrevocably changing. And, as so often before, trying to capture something of that in words.
