In the 1930s, Edoardo Weber began producing twin-barrel carburetors for motor racing, where two barrels of the same size were used. Weber pioneered the use of two-stage twin-barrel carburetors, with two venturis of different sizes (the smaller one for low-speed running and the larger one optimised for high-speed use).
Weber carburetors were first imported to the U.S. in the early 1950s, where they became the primary choice of competition-minded Jaguar and MG drivers.
Fiat assumed full control of the company in 1952 and continued the expansion the product line. Weber’s reach extended across not only Italy, but all of Europe. Weber carburetors could be found on Aston Martins, BMWs, Porsches, Renaults, Volkswagens and more. A strong aftermarket of conversion kits were available for Audis, Austin-Healeys, Datsuns, MGs, Mercedes-Benzes and Toyotas, among others.
