The 22nd Battalion was the longest serving of the New Zealand infantry battalions that made up the 2NZEF from 1939 to 1947. Its officers assembled at Trentham Camp on 8 November 1939, were sent home for Christmas and returned on 10 January 1940 when they met the new Commanding Officer, Major Leslie Andrew VC for the first time. This website has been set up to provide a collection of information and photographs about the 22 Battalion and its people, starting with a collection of photographs documenting the last days of the war on 2-4 May 1945 as the 22nd entered Trieste.

I will add more information about the Battalion as it comes to hand, and as time permits. I have also compiled a nominal roll of all the men who served in the 22 Battalion. This roll now has over 3,400 names, including the men who served with the Battalion after the war as part of J Force in Japan.
