Completed in 1957, Massey House was the first (partially) curtain-walled building in New Zealand and an early influential example of International Modernism here: functional design, a lack of adornment and the use of technologically advanced construction materials and techniques. The iconic Massey House was designed by Ernst Plischke and Cedric Firth.
In 2020 The Wellington Company in collaboration with award winning architect Stuart Gardyne from Architecture+ are set to breathe new life into the outstanding historical and culturally significant Massey House. Strengthened to 100% of NBS, the restoration and redevelopment of 126LQ will deliver over 7,077m2 of reimagined A-Grade premium commercial office and retail space set over 9 Levels, incorporating the 150m2 green roof deck providing a flexible staff and entertaining area overlooking Lambton Quay.
The basebuild will be fully refurbished incorporating all new sustainable building systems and services with a focus on providing a truly cost-effective accommodation solution whilst reducing the building's impact on the environment.
