Start of the 2022-23 Winnipeg Ice Season
During the warmup of the Winnipeg Ice home opener, the Ice players wore orange jerseys to do their part to remind all about residential schools and how they have impacted Indigenous Peoples. The Orange Jersey Project is coordinated by Jeremy Boston who attended Canada’s last operating residential school - St. Michaels’s in Duck Lake, Saskatchewan. We are honoured to help Jeremy share the message and spirit of Every Child Matters through the shared love of Sports.
Second year player, Haley Braun scored the Ice’s first goal of the season by going short side on the yellowhead goaltender. She later added two assists, including one on Ava Bergman’s game winner with less than 2 minutes to play in the game. Game was a back forth affair with the Ice outlasting Yellowhead 5-4 for their first victory of the MFHLU18 season. Other goal scorers where rookies Izzy Mann, and Selene Wozney, along with Alycia Ross. Jordyn Nepinak-Sargent earned the win by stopping 28 of the 32 sh
