I am a huge fan and practicer of infrastructure as code and examples can be seen on my github account , especially the aws and demos repositories. A key thought exercise is how fast and easily can I recover from a complete loss of my AWS account. Answering that question often means accepting some unavoidable risk and putting measures in place to mitigate severe failure scenarios.
The challenge of implementing infrastructure as code is the amount of effort to get simple tasks done. It took me a long time (days) to get WordPress setup the way I wanted on AWS. Then I got worried about cost, security, and other factors.
