Turns out that this is my 100th post about our travels. It seems timely to take note of that, and to thank all of you who are still paying Jeff and me the compliment of your attention. These writings serve as our collective memory of our travels–a mnemonic aid when we are trying to recall some detail about Southern Spain, New Zealand or where ever. And a special thanks to our loyal subscribers. I often think of you individually as I am writing.

We finished our 110-mile hike on the West Highland Way yesterday at about 6 pm, after 15 miles of hiking that took nine hours. What a relief it was to easily find our B&B and settle in for two nights. We left an extra day here to climb Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the UK (pictured at left). But we were tired, the weather was lousy and Jeff had climbed it in the fog 41 years ago, so skipping it was not a hard choice.

The last few days have been quite enjoyable, despite long long hikes and sore feet. Some of our B&Bs were the best yet. Alt Na Leven, in Kinlochleven, let us put our wet outer garments and boots into a basket which they carried to their drying room for us and then later delivered dry to our door. Plus they provided tea and amazing treats called Tunnock’s Milk Chocolate Mallow. Plus really comfortable beds and eggs benedict for breakfast.
