The Plaza is a complete restoration of the iconic Hammer and Nail Building. Originally designed by Gerald Crane and Norbert Gorwic, the building constructed in 1965 boasts clean mid-century modern architecture. This building was originally intended as a tribute to a local carpenter’s union. The illuminated hammer and nail signs rested atop of this 12 story building acted as a visual anchor of Midtown Detroit for many years.
