The Writers Guild of America began a strike on 2 May, 2023. The strike is about the amount of money TV writers get paid and about how the structure of the industry has changed and how that is affecting both writing as a career, and the shows it produces. What does a strike mean? Writers can’t work on any current projects with studios, or take meetings about current or future projects.

Video on demand and streaming services were in their early stages, Netflix started its streaming service in 2007. That strike was particularly focused on remuneration related to residuals from DVDs and also payment conditions for the new digital media and requirements to employ WGA writers.
