I sat alone in my living room this morning, reflecting on my life. A rare privilege and silence that I have because the household has Covid. I was supposed to have a celebration with friends and family on the weekend, which was of course postponed thanks to Rona. Anyway… I appreciate this time and the irony, dear Universe.
I knew I wanted to capture what I’ve learned instead of go through the archive of memories and achievements. So I just thought about each block of life chronologically, the 10s, 20s, 30s, 40s… and here’s what came up as key takeaways.
I think of my mother the most when I think about this idea through the eyes of young Van. Being a relatively new parent myself and understanding that babies go through a stage of development where aside from a secure attachment to you, they are figuring out who else is in their tribe - a process they will replicate in teenagehood - the value of my mother’s love and support is even more appreciated.
