On 27 October 2022, at the First Committee meeting of the 77th Session of the General Assembly, Brazil called on states to initiate a process of informal consultations on the convening of the Preparatory Committee of the IV Special Session on Disarmament (SSODIV) by the 78th Session of the General Assembly. Convening SSODIV would allow the energy and support for arms control and disarmament to be harnessed.
SCRAP Weapons strongly supports Brazil’s call and has made a request for its inclusion in the New Agenda for Peace.
