Bruce Farthing was elected to the Court of Common Council of the Corporation of London representing the Ward of Aldgate (the shipping ward) in 1981 and served on a variety of committees, notably the Guildhall School of Music and Drama , and was, for a time, chairman of the Board of Governers of the City of London school . Educated at Cambridge, he was called to the Bar (Inner Temple) in 1954 and was in government legal service until joining the Chamber of Shipping as a legal advisor in 1959. He married in the same year, and had 2 children, Anne & Richard . He remarried in 1986.
