When I was in college, I received some life-changing advice in the form of feedback on a piece of creative writing. My professor, in her tiny, barely legible blue cursive wrote “this character has no agency.”
She was absolutely right. This woman I’d written was driven completely by the decisions of the side characters. She did very little of her own volition. And plot twist of the century: the character was me.
I realized I had to make a change if I wanted my life to be mine . Now I’m holding the pen for my own life story, and I want to help you do the same.
