PLATON is a network of German physicians which aims to improve the individualized, targeted therapy for patients in different cancer entities by bringing together molecular profiles , clinical data and study information . PLATON is conducted by Institute of Clinical Cancer Research IKF as an epidemiological platform trial under the patronage of the AIO – Arbeitsgemeinschaft Internistische Onkologie.
The key feature of PLATON is a shared infrastructure (PLATON WebApp), where participating physicians view molecular profiling and clinical data of the enrolled patients and additionally have the opportunity to introduce currently recruiting clinical trials on their study-sites in Germany. The information exchange created by this interactive platform makes it possible to increase the likelihood that patients will be treated with the best possible individualised therapy and included in appropriate ongoing cli
In addition, PLATON provides the opportunity to conduct Next Generation Sequencing for patients of participating physicians in certain sub-studies via FoundationOne CDx or assessment in one of PLATON’s central pathologies. Participating physicians can also benefit from the regular molecular-pathology case discussion .
