Hi, I'm Peter Hurford. My main goal is to scalably employ a large number of well-qualified researchers to work on the world's most important problems. I am the co-Executive Director of Rethink Priorities - rather than just doing what feels right, we use evidence and careful analysis to find the very best causes to work on .
I'm also a data scientist. I've used machine learning to help fight fraud, reduce insurance risk, improve healthcare outcomes, predict the results of sports games, forecast elections, and a lot more. I do forecasting at The Open Model Project , which brings transparency and public collaboration to election forecasting. Previously, I've worked at DataRobot , Avant , Clearcover , and others.
I am recognized as a Top 100 Forecaster on Metaculus and Forecastapp (both are international forecasting competitions). I also have a Triple Master Rank on Kaggle (an international data science competition) with top 1% performance in five different competitions. Lastly, I am an avid open source developer and I love building tools to solve problems and make things easier.
