Old Biddy is an affectionate term another woman and I adopted 6 or more years ago when we were at a race. There were actually 3 of us “old biddies”. We have continued to refer to ourselves as old biddies. This is NOT a negative term at all.
It’s gotten me thinking, though, about how many older women are just put out to pasture either in someone’s minds or maybe even physically. And that’s a shame. For some reason we are all attached to numbers – numbers in the bank account, numbers on the scale and numbers on our calendars. What’s the difference between weighing 119 pounds and 120? I can tell you that it makes a very big difference depending on how your mind is wired.
The same happens with age. What’s the difference between being 69 and being 70? In many cases it’s just one day but saying “I’m 70” makes people feel old whereas saying “I’m 69” makes you feel as if you’ve still “got time”.
