Approximately 20 million artisanal and small-scale gold (ASG) miners including 4.5 million women and 600,000 children under the age of 15, all largely suspected of having undiagnosed mercury poisoning, use mercury to produce an estimated 20% of the world’s annual supply of gold valued at USD $30 billion which is used in our jewellery, computers, iPad, iPhone, and other e-devices.
