Trail Improvements: Porta-potties and a Mile Zero Marker

The Kennebec River Rail Trail Board of Supervisors, working with all four municipalities along the Trail, has installed portable toilets at key access points, one in each community. The toilets will remain in all seasons, and will be maintained by the Board. The locations are: at the trail entrance beneath the Memorial Bridge in Augusta, at the quay in Granite City Park in Hallowell, at the trail entrance on Route 201 across from KV Lane in Farmingdale, and at the trail’s end at the Hannaford parking lot in

The Friends and Board of Supervisors are also planning for the installation of a new “Mile Zero” granite stone to mark the official beginning of the trail at the Augusta Waterfront. The marker will be an engraved granite piece bearing the KRRT logo and the text “Begin – Mile 0.0”, set flush with the pavement at the proposed location shown in the photograph above. We are hoping that this installation will occur next summer.
