While interviewed by the NY Times, during the height of Annie Hall, Marshall Brickman offered the world this incredible gem, “Showing up is 80 percent of life.” Brickman credited Woody Allen with that sage advice. Different versions of that quote have shown up over the years. But, the core idea is always the same – be present.
The 80% line is perfect. It’s short. It’s to the point. And, it makes a clear and proactive point. But, the full quote from the interview is much better, although admittedly, it doesn’t roll off the tongue as well.
As Woody says, ‘Showing up is 80 percent of life. ’ Sometimes it’s easier to hide home in bed. I’ve done both.
