“To Canadians, the notion that access to health care should be based on need, not ability to pay, is a defining national value.” Americans simply don’t live with that confidence. Losing a job is bad enough, but imagine that you’re going to have to lose everything you’ve got to qualify for Medicaid. Sell your house. So here is my take. We need universal healthcare, but we need to design it better than Canada who has long wait periods for elective or none emergency operations. They (Canada) do not cover dental, for example, or drugs that have not been prescribed by a hospital. They are way cheaper even when you do have to pay, however. But Switzerland, for example, has a system where you pay, but if you cannot afford to pay the govt pays your premiums. No one goes uncovered. So what we have in the U.S. sucks, it is more
