Description: Hans is a seasoned consultant and educator on intersex topics in medicine, media, literature, and culture.
Hans is a San Francisco based activist who speaks about growing up intersex and a cartoonist who writes stories about the medicalization of intersex people.
Hans is a writer focused on bringing intersex education topics into medical schools and popular media. This work builds on the blessing of a childhood spent among multiple generations of intersex activists, and formative experiences in Bay Area queer comics and activism communities.
While serving as Communications Director for interACT , the largest U.S. intersex law and policy organization, Hans was cited as a “major figure” in the passage of the first U.S. legislation to explicitly denounce genital surgeries on intersex infants. Hans’s groundwork and digital strategies helped pass California’s resolution SCR-110 , and launched subsequent bills toward individual informed consent models for clitoral and other genital surgeries currently still performed in early childhood.
