Horwich Community Allotment is a friendly allotment where local people can get together to grow their own food organically. It is entirely run by volunteers who do as much (or as little!) as they like, then share the produce accordingly. If you would like to grow some of your own food, but don’t think you could manage a whole allotment by yourself, why not come along?

The Community Allotment was set up in 2003 by a group of volunteers who wanted to grow their own organic food, without taking on the commitment of individual allotments. Since then we have built raised beds, planted an orchard, put up a greenhouse and a polytunnel, laid a patio, woven willow structures, and learnt a lot about growing food.

We are always looking for new volunteers; children are also welcome with a responsible adult. Whether you are a complete beginner or a green-fingered expert, there is plenty to do. You don’t need any equipment except old clothes and strong shoes (or wellies). As well as planting, growing and harvesting crops, there are always maintenance tasks, and we have regular barbecues and tea parties.
