This law was put in place for the benefit of mankind, and as a template to show us how to love God and how to love people. They are an eternal law of love. Jesus clarified the eternal nature of the law when He said Matthew 5:18 “ For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass , one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. ”
In the book of Matthew Jesus summed up every one of the Ten Commandments . Matthew 22:37-40 “ Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. ”
