After enjoying a stellar amateur career, which included a resounding win over Roy Jones, Jr. en route to second place in the 1988 National Golden Gloves competition, Gerald turned pro in the same year. His debut took place in Milwaukee, which became the start of a recurring theme in his career -- a win by first round knockout, this over Roy Hundley.
