Franklin Junior High opened in 1951, grew with the city and later became a church after the school closed in 1979. (More history of the school years coming soon.)
First Federated (now The Mission Church ) bought the building in 1980, grew a large congregation and hosted Des Moines Christian School before moving to Urbandale in 2018.
Jeff Young of We Can Build It bought the building in March 2018, aiming to invest $8 million in historic renovation. We’re seeking community input on our concept. We’ve met with neighbors and others about our aspirations, and it’s great to see such a warm response to our project.
