Our children are being cheated out of prosperous and rewarding lives because they are not being taught how to read in our public schools. Please help us in our mission to reform reading instruction in New Mexico.
Our organization is intent on bringing reform to reading education in New Mexico. New Mexico students are failing miserably at learning to read. In the latest NAEP testing by the U.S Department of Education, our state's fourth grade reading scores tied with the District of Columbia's for last in the nation. Barely half our students at all levels can read or do math at grade level. Nearly half of all adults in New Mexico are reading at a 5th grade level or lower.
There are many reasons why this is so, but they are all fixable according to the conclusive scientific research done in the last 30 years. From this research, we know exactly how to fix reading instruction in our state. We want to inform you, the public, of why our children are not learning to read so that you can help put pressure on our lawmakers to come up with the best educational design and resources to fix the problem.
