There is a gnawing feeling in my gut when I hear about programs or engagement in Black communities by people outside of these communities. The ones who work for top organizations that don’t have any Black leaders. Or if they do, they are mostly there for show. Or while there, aren’t really allowed to share their opinions without the fear of losing their job. The types of people who conduct surveys or research studies in our predominantly Black or marginalized communities and don’t think twice about sending
That feeling sits in the pit of my stomach and makes me think of what type of care or consideration has truly been given prior to developing any programs or initiatives.
