In 2023, twenty graphic novels/manga will be selected for the four age-appropriate shortlists. The overall goal of this scheme is to encourage reading amongst teenagers. Cat + Gamer by Wataru Nadatani (published by Dark Horse) is the overall winner of the Excelsior Award 2023 , as chosen by the students of the UK. Although Cat + Gamer won with a phenomenal score, there wasn't a book on any of this year's shortlists that were not popular with students. Thank you to all the schools that took part this year!
