I have a deep negative reaction when I visit a website and am welcomed with a pop-up of any kind. This video outlines why pop-ups should not be used.

I understand the need for branding and for style guides. I’ve been doing sub-sub-contract work for HP (now HPE) since 2003. I’ve had to read, learn,  and execute style guides for my entire career. When there is a new style guide for a business I’m working with, I read through the tome of colors, fonts, and margin requirements. I always like the “what not to do” page with rows of rule violation examples.
