Shelley Spencer-Hellmich, PhD, LMFT, LCAC, CADACIV, CDVC, is a licensed marriage and family therapist, licensed clinical addiction counselor and certified domestic violence counselor. She graduated with a B.A. in Psychology from Indiana University, a M.S. in Marriage and Family Therapy from Butler University, and a Ph.D. in Psychology from Saybrook University.
Shelley works with a range of issues from coping with a difficult psychological issue to working on habit control and goal attainment. With a special focus on relationship and communication issues, she meets with individuals, couples and families. She also has particular expertise working with addictions.
The power of guided imagery is being seen in some very interesting research. Studies are showing that patients are released from the hospital with fewer pain medicines three to four days sooner than usual when using guided imagery prior to surgery. Insurance companies are taking notice.
