Beta Iota was chartered May 21, 1972, as the 55th chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International. Over the past 33 years, Beta Iota Chapter has inducted close to 3000 nurse scholars. These nurse scholars were selected for membership based on their academic excellence in the undergraduate and graduate nursing programs or as a nurse leader in the community by achieving excellence in administration, publication, research, education, or as a clinician. Beta Iota Chapter has a long history of supporting the conduction of research and knowledge dissemination through financial support and presentation or publication opportunities. The chapter continues to support nursing scholarship as well as recognize nurse leaders, collaborate with other chapters and organizations, seek to engage members and increase the visibility of Sigma Theta Tau International in the Tri-State community.
Beta Iota is located in Region 9 which consists of chapters located in Southern Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana. Beta Iota Chapter is also a member of a local consortium of STTI chapters called SONK (Southern Ohio Northern Kentucky). SONK consists of five other chapters, Omicron Omicron (Xavier University and College of Mount St. Joseph), Rho Theta (Northern Kentucky University), Zeta Phi (Wright State University), Omicron Chi (Miami University), and Psi Omega (The Christ College of Nursing and Health Sciences).
