As a result of a childhood trauma (possibly a bone fracture), the forefinger of Leonardo da Vinci’s left hand could not bend completely together with his other fingers. Because of this in his self-portraits, as well as in the painting depicting Jesus, Leonardo da Vinci's forefinger stands out compared to his other fingers which shows individuality.
Leonardo da Vinci’s teacher, Andrea del Verrocchio, in the work "Tobias and the Angel", where Tobias is Leonardo da Vinci, represented a fish hanging on Tobias’s forefinger (finger-hook).
