Anne Rainwater is a pianist, curator and educational artist based in the Bay Area, California. Recognized for her “boldly assertive rhetoric” (San Francisco Examiner), she performs a wide variety of contemporary music and also specializes in the works of J.S. Bach. Highlights of her 2022/2023 season include speaking and performing engagements at the University of Baltimore, San Francisco State, and UC Berkeley, a joint, 4-school residency in the Philadelphia area with her duo partner William Lang, and an appearance on the Cal Performances Series with the Eco Ensemble. When not at the piano or writing, she is running long distances, playing tennis, reading, or obsessively watching baseball. ARTIST STATEMENT My work explores hidden and overt moments of musical joy, wonder and whimsy. I enjoy probing the boundaries of time, speed and density as they reflect our frenetic, contemporary experiences. I tend towards works that include movement, electronics, vocalization, and extended pianistic techniques, and I particularly delight in exploring dense textures in contemporary and Baroque works.
