I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication Science at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and a Faculty Associate in the Center for Social Media and Politics at New York University. I received my PhD in Political Science from the University of Washington . Before joining VU Amsterdam, I was a Moore Sloan research fellow in the Center for Data Science and Center for Social Media and Politics at the New York University; and a research fellow at the Amsterdam School of Communication Research.
In my research projects I collaborate with the Social Media and Political Participation lab, in studying how social media shapes protest dynamics and in using social media data to better understand political responsiveness. I also collaborate with John Wilkerson and Matt Denny in a NSF-funded project developing text as data methods to study the lawmaking process in the U.S. Congress; and with John Wilkerson and Nora Webb Williams in another NSF-funded project developing computer vision methods to study how
I received a B.A. in political science from the University of Barcelona and I worked as a research assistant for the Spanish Policy Agendas Project . Outside the academic sphere, I love all kinds of sports and music. I played cello for many years and I like listening to Schoenberg and Kodaly. I specially love Starker's recording of Kodaly's cello solo.
