It is estimated that half of adults have advanced gum disease, setting themselves up for future tooth loss. This could be prevented if we emphasized the importance of taking care of our gums as much as preventing cavities.
Although we encourage children to brush their teeth to prevent cavities, one could argue that gums are far more important than teeth and should be given as much attention as teeth.
