Before founding Pinnacle Hotels USA, Dr. Lall spent several years as a practicing physician. After graduating from the University of Glasgow in 1979, he emigrated to the United States to accept a medical internship in Augusta, Georgia. Several years later, Dr. Lall began treating patients at Kaiser Permanente San Diego Medical Center. In the late 1980s, however, he felt the pull of the business sector, just as his father had at his age, and decided to shift into the hospitality industry.
